Because of my laziness I did not get any gas today all I got
was a red face. It all started last night. Being a lady of age there are
certain undergarments that must go as soon as one gets home, now I am sure most
of my female readers get this one. I get in the house and am hit with one thing
after another racing around getting things done and I find myself standing
alone in the kitchen cooking dinner and feeling so uncomfortable with said
undergarment. Now for most that do not know my kitchen has two of the biggest
window and they cover two walls and face the street. Now not wanting to leave
the kitchen I decided that I could slip the undergarment off without taking off
my shirt and no one would see or know what I had done. As I thought my removal
technique was flawless. I was so slick and then I realized I did not have a
place to put the damn thing and I could not just stand there holding it while I
cooked dinner. While I pondered the situation I saw my purse sitting on the
table and again not wanting to leave and put it where it belonged, I stuffed it
in my purse. Then this morning I grab my bag and off to work I went. When I got
into my office I was about to get my badge, and saw the lanyard it was on
hanging out the top of my bag so I pulled it and out popped my bra hanging on
to my badge. I looked around and got that little smug feeling thinking I dodged
that bullet and no one saw it. So not wanting that to happen again I put the
damn thing in my coat pocket and zipped it up so it would not fall out. Nine
hours later my bra was not remembered in any way shape or form. I totally
forgot about the Damn thing in my pocket. I left work and headed to the
gas station. I got out with my card in my hand and was about to swipe it,
when I realized my pocket felt strange so I unzipped it. I reach in and pulled
out my bra, then dropped it. Did I mention that gas was at the all time low for
the week and prices was about to go up so the line is out the station and
forming down the side street. To say I was mortified is putting it mild, as I
reached down and picked it out of the gas and water fill puddle I was standing
in; at the same time I yanked the door open with one swift move I through it in
the back seat jumped in and drove off with my red face. As I am driving down
the road to go to another station because I still need gas, I started to replay
the whole thing in my head and then felt so stupid. The more I replayed the
more I started to think of what the other customers there must have been
thinking and I just busted up laughing at myself. Now a good laugh that brings
tears to your eyes is a great catharsis and releases a lot of stress. Needless
to say I still do not have gas and now I not only have a red face I have red
eyes but I feel great.

Open your heart
Update Mako was adopted July 2014
Mako, what can I say about this crazy goofy dog, I wish I could take a snap shot that would capture the true dog. He has his bad side and I will never try to hide it. He does not do well with big dogs but he get alone with small dogs. He is Alpha and does not do well with strong corrections, he has cancer and there is no way to tell what his life span will be. He has skin cancer from being tied out on a roof in Peru.
This is a short version of what he has and how it is treated.
"What is a squamous cell carcinoma of the skin? This is a malignant tumor of skin epidermal cells with varying degrees of differentiation (resemblance to normal, non-cancerous cells). Tumors of this type occur in people and all domestic species. The tumor is related to basal cell tumors. With the exception of those arising in the nail beds, most can be cured surgically, provided sufficient margins around the diseased tissue can be obtained at the time of tumor removal."
So he has had one surgery which we removed as many as we could. Now I see 4 more have come back and I will have them removed also. There is no way to give an accurate prognosis on his life expectancy. He is 6 maybe close to 7 as he has been with me for almost a year. I rescued him from Peru to give him a better life. I want to find a home for him so he may live out his life no matter how long that is, in a kind, loving caring family.
Now the the funny loving side of him has given him personality that I don't ever think I will be able to put into words. The people that have met him all say the same about him. He is smart and he always amazes me with the things he does. Two nights ago he opened two doors and let himself outside while we all were settling in for the evening. We still do not know how he did it. There may have been some human error in it but for him to find the error and take advantage of it makes me just scratch my head.
He can be intimidating and will try to run the house and everyone in it. His Kryptonite is a squirt bottle of water. What ever he is doing we show him the bottle and he stops and takes off to get out of range, So when he is just being a damn dog and trying to get food off the counter, barking or being couch bully trying to get the best seat on the couch from the other dogs we just show the bottle and it stops. He is a Peruvian Inca Orchid dog and has a primitive nature and his mind set can be very much like his ancestors the wolf. So we know the first stare or growl for no reason we can see is not to be ignored. Something has got his attention and we don't understand it but we know he means business so the bottle sits in the living room and he obeys the bottle. He sometimes grumbles as he is walking through the house he is always searching out my other big dog Sipan. We must keep them separated at all time. They will fight and the problem is Mako starts it but Sipan has teeth and he finishes it. So poor Mako get the worst of the deal. He has a couple of teeth and they are nubs. They look as though they have been cut in half. I have no idea what happen to them or his tail but he is short on both ends.
He is kennel trained potty trained and loves to snuggle with any human. He is friendly and love all people he meets. He is a social guy and is not fearful. He has bit the dogs but he just bruises but has never bit humans. As the pecking order had to be determined the dogs all of them have tested him. I have only one who keeps testing the other all know and don't bother him. He plays with the younger dogs and loves toys. He is a couch potato and always try to get the coveted seat on the couch and chase the other off. I won't let him chase dogs off so when I am in the room I show him the bottle and he jumps down and goes away. He love my kids and is always trying to hug up to them, he will squeeze into the smallest spot just to snuggle.
Mako and Sipan must take turns and rotate one with the family upstairs and the other in a kennel or down stairs. I so want him to have his own family and Sipan can have his family back. Please do not think of his negative side as a horror that will make you afraid of him. He has gone through so much and all he wants is to be loved. He lives here and the turnstile door we have here and the constant flow of new dogs and he does fine. He just does not like the big dogs, he is living with 11 other dogs at the moment and he went on a 3000 mile plus ride to Canada with 10 dogs and four humans in a minivan slept in hotel room for a week. He never gave us one problem. I love this dog but it is not fare for him and Sipan. If you don't have a big dog or an aggressive dog won't you search you heart to give this amazing dog a chance to have a happy ending to his life.

LIFE with the Damn Dogs
Life with the Damn dogs; chaos often ensues and some days it is like a scene from the Keystone Cops.
2014/02/08
Better than a Kong.
Now the big guys just hate each other, it is what it is. But I must keep them separated on different floors with 4 baby gates keeping the two different location completely on total lock down. Now to be fair we alternate them when we are at home so one time Sipan is up and Mako is down and vise versa. During the day when we are all gone we kennel all the damn dogs them. Winter is taking its toll on all the dogs as they are starting to get Cabin fever and everyone of them bitch because they don't want to be where ever they are. The little dogs just squeeze through the gates and that pisses off everyone else so then they start in. Weekends can be trying some times and today it was total grouchiness on all their parts. Today was Mako's day down stairs and he took down the baby gate in my room. He just hung out at the top of the stairs being annoying alternating between barking and whining. Sipan and the other where all rough housing at ear piercing levels. I was trying to talk to people in Peru on Skype and the girls are making breakfast and chit chatting The noise level was grinding me down. I motioned for the girls to make the dogs be quiet and get out of the kitchen so I could complete my call. Mako was not being quite for no one but for food he will do anything, so we tossed apple wedge down to him until they were gone. Now two weeks ago I bought an Angel food cake in the clear plastic container made with middle indentation to accommodate the hole in the middle. Now I have no idea how they make these things but this one was so hard to get into it was like trying to break into Forte Knocks. I don't eat cake so it is up to the kids to finish it off; and they gave up on the last piece as it was not worth the work to open the cake container.
As I started to hammer the kids to get the dogs quite, one of them grabs the cake container and tosses it over the gate and said that will keep him quite. That sent the whole room into laughter. I grab the camera; Mako has been quiet ever since as it took him a long time to get that thing open and get to the last piece of cake. Damn dog, it was better than a Kong.

The heating vent, really?
In the years I have spent in rescue I have had many dogs pass through my home a few were for a week or less but most for over a month and some for over a year. Now these numbers are well into three digits. I have had my favorite and I have had my not so favorites. But every now and then one will come into my life that just leaves me in Ahwww. I have one now that is so smart he amazes me all the time. The fact that he hates my PIO Sipan to the point of his memory of the last place he saw Sipan will make him nuts till he looks for himself to see is if he is really not there. This has left my doors and gates beat to hell. He beats one down I get another. He figures out how to get through or around a gate I have to figure out how to stop him. Now I have had lots of time with him and I thought I had all sights, and sounds of Sipan blocked. We have a magic trick we play on him which we use the different doors to let him in and out of the house. Now I have to admit I have almost screwed up and forgot which dog was behind door number two. I put one on the back porch then run through the house to get dog number two. I have to get him up stair, back through the house and put in the back room before Mako opens the door and lets himself in the house. Yes the easy way would be to lock the doors so he cannot let himself in but then we forget the door is locked and it is not fun locking oneself out in your PJ's and slippers standing in a foot of snow. Yes he opens doors and if he can't open it he just body slams it with his weight and it pops open. He knows how to open the door to the upstairs and then he has access to the bathroom upstairs GAWD he can make a mess out of that in a split second. He knows how to body slam the back room door and so we have chairs in front of those two doors and new gates throughout the house. We are on total lock down now. Finally the old boy is starting to settle down.
The last few days he has been going between the chair and the sofa and growing. It has taken a little while to figure out what he is doing as there is nothing between the chair and the sofa except a heating vent. So we yell at him and he leaves the space but not long after he returns and starts the growing again. Now Sipan in the basement is really very quiet and just hangs out on my bed, but even he has been barking and for no reason as of late. So the other day Mako goes to the space between the sofa and chair and starts growling. Then Sipan starts barking in the basement. OK now I have find out what the hell is going on. I get up and go look and here is Mako with his nose stuck into the heating vent and growling. Then all came clear to me; my bed is directly under the sofa in the basement and the heating vent is blowing right on my bed where Sipan likes to lay as it gets nice and warm under it. So when Mako is growling at the vent they are directly over each other and pissing a moaning at each other through the heating vent. Seriously, how the hell did he figure that one out? It is very hard to know that the dogs are truly smarter than me.

Mako's story
Update Mako has been adopted
This is the first time I saw Mako, he was a picture on the internet. I learned quickly he was in need of help. He was tied out on a roof in Peru. A friend in Peru was asking for some one to adopt him and get him off the roof. My friend went to see him and found that his skin was cooking on him. I knew he need to be rescued. My friend helped me get him to the USA and at the moment I let him out of the kennel in the parking lot of the airport in Washington DC, I knew his skin was in much need of help. I got him into my vet and he was put on meds and special shampoo to help his skin recover from all the exposure to the sun. He fit into my pack but we soon learned he did not like other big dogs. My Sipan, that was also rescued from Peru, and Mako started out mostly growling at each other till the first fight and ever since that first fight they have hated each other. The two of them rotate floors of the house and must be kept separated with three different gates. Now to know Mako is to love Mako. He tolerates all the little dogs that have come and gone through my home since June. He is a dominate dog and he will try to take over the couch and any humans and keep the small dogs away. He loves to play and cuddle and is smart.
He developed cancer from his long exposure to the sun while tied to the roof. His story is much like most dogs that end up in rescue. He has cancer, the kind that is treated with surgery, when the scabby cells appear they need to be removed. This chases most folks off and they do want a dog that has cancer. His cancer is not the kind that grows tumors it is in the cell of the skin. They have no way to tell how long he can live with this. How fast it will grow and if the surgery we have already had him through caught all the cells that will turn into cancer.
He can live a long life or he can live six months no way to know, the way he acts and his personality I think he will live forever. He has been through so much in the past year and it has not slowed him down one bit. He has been in three different countries, flown in a cargo hold and kept in his kennel for about 30 hours, road across to countries on a 3600 mile road trip and had two surgeries in six months.
He has so many thing against him one being his cancer, two he is 6 years old, three he is hairless, four he is a primitive breed and he hates big dogs and tolerates small dogs. He loves humans and will snuggle with anyone. He is not shy and warms up quick.
This is in the car after we picked him up from the airport in Washington DC
This is his first day in my home in Michigan
He snuggles with anyone.
And he is like any other hairless dog he loves the sun. But now must always have sunscreen and a t-shirt on.
He begs just like all dogs
He is curious and wants to see what is going on. As the girls sort the donations that come in he is right there to see if he gets something.
And yes he is a Damn Dog.
Mako is looking for a forever home that he can spend his final years in happy bliss. He has lived more life in the last 6 years and most of it not so good. He is a Peruvian Inca Orchid which is a primitive breed that are thought to be little altered from the ancestral wolves
in behavioral attributes. In the
first changes that domestication had on wolves were behavioral, selecting for
animals that accepted the presence of humans without continually challenging in
a pecking order situation. This being said he needs a firm but gentle correction when challenging the pecking order. He is smart and catches on quick so he is easy to train. The humans must always be the head of the house and he will challenge that sometimes but a firm gentle correction he stands down and stops his behaviors. Mostly he like to growl at the others and when sleeping and a human brush against him he comes out of his sleep thinking it is another dog. My kids have learned that they must put there hand directly on him so he knows they are there and not one of the little dogs. He has never bit any human but has bit a couple of my small alpha dogs who want to be the head of him. He has only a couple of wore down teeth so he does not break the skin on the dogs he gives them a bruise, again it is only the alpha's that he does this too. and it has only happened a couple of time to them. He is goofy and lovable all who meet him like him. But because I have another large dog we must keep the house all gated off and one dog on each floor of the house so they can never see each other. I love this dog but he needs to be free and so does my Sipan. My blog is to reach the folks that are not in my circle of friends that have big dogs or at there limit on numbers of dogs. His chances are so small of finding his own family because of the things that I have mentioned. For the right family I will move heavens and earth to get him to them and his adoption fee is one dollar and signed contract. I just want him out there to give him a better chance of finding a home where he can live out what ever life he has left. If you can give Mako a forever home and you are interested please contact me at crested@sbcglobal.net. He is in Michigan.
